Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Raccoongang® collects, uses, shares, and safeguards personal data in the Open edX® Mobile apps distributed via Apple App Store and Google Play.

1. Who We Are

Raccoongang® (Raccoon Gang OÜ), a private limited company registered in the Republic of Estonia with its principal place of business at Harju maakond, Tallinn, Lasnamäe linnaosa, Pae tn 25-47, 11414, is the data controller for the Open edX® Mobile apps. For privacy and security matters contact security@raccoongang.com.

Our global Raccoongang® group, including affiliates such as Raccoon Gang LLC in the United States, supports app operations under intra-group data processing agreements consistent with the corporate policy published at raccoongang.com/privacy-policy.

This policy applies to the iOS and Android applications branded as “Open edX® Mobile” and to any optional pilot builds that we distribute through TestFlight, Google Play Internal App Sharing, or other official store testing tools.

2. Summary

We collect only the information needed to authenticate learners, deliver course content, and improve app performance in line with the corporate privacy principles that govern raccoongang.com. We never sell personal data. You can request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your data at any time via security@raccoongang.com. We retain data only for as long as necessary to provide the services or meet legal obligations.

3. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use the apps.

Account & Profile

Identifiers, such as your name, email address, and user ID, that originate from the connected Open edX® LMS. These are required for sign-in, course enrollment, and personalization.

Usage & Activity

Learning progress, quiz results, and course interactions synced with your LMS account. We also collect limited analytics events (screens viewed, feature engagement) to improve app UX.

Device & Diagnostics

Device model, operating system, language, IP-address-derived region, crash logs, and performance metrics provided through Apple and Google developer tools to keep the apps reliable.

Optional Data

Support requests, meeting notes, and survey responses collected when you contact us or opt in to pilot programs. We store this only with your consent and delete it upon request.

4. How We Use Data

  • Authenticate you with your Open edX® LMS and synchronize enrolled courses.
  • Deliver offline content, in-app messaging, push notifications, and SCORM activities.
  • Provide customer support, troubleshoot issues, and protect against fraud or abuse.
  • Measure performance and improve app usability, accessibility, and stability.
  • Comply with legal obligations, enforce agreements, and protect our rights.

5. Legal Bases

We process personal data under the following legal bases (as applicable):

  • Contract — to deliver services you request as part of your LMS program.
  • Legitimate interests — to maintain security, prevent misuse, and improve the apps.
  • Consent — for optional diagnostics, marketing communications, or pilot programs.
  • Legal obligations — to comply with tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements.

6. Third-Party Sharing

We share data only with trusted service providers that support core app functionality.

Open edX® Platform Operators

Course providers and institutions running the connected Open edX® LMS receive your learning activity so they can deliver educational services.

Infrastructure & Analytics

We may use hosting providers (e.g., Amazon Web Services), crash reporting, and analytics tools (e.g., Firebase, App Store Connect, Google Play Console) with data minimized and pseudonymized.

Payment & In-App Purchases

If in-app purchases are enabled, Apple and Google process payment information. We do not receive full payment card details, but we may receive subscription status updates.

Compliance & Legal

We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to legal requests, or to protect the rights and safety of users, partners, or the public.

7. Data Retention

We store personal data for as long as you maintain an active account in the connected LMS or as required by contractual obligations. Crash logs and analytics events are retained for up to 24 months. Support records are deleted within 90 days after resolution unless we must keep them longer for legal or operational reasons.

8. International Transfers

We operate globally with infrastructure in the United States and European Union. When transferring data across borders, we apply safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses, data processing agreements, and encryption in transit and at rest.

9. Your Rights & Choices

You remain in control of your personal information.

Access & Portability

Request a copy of the data we process about you, including LMS activity, device diagnostics, and support history.

Correction & Deletion

Ask us to correct inaccurate information or delete data that we no longer need. We will respect your request unless retention is required by law.

Opt-Out

Manage push notifications, analytics consent, and pilot program participation in the app settings or through your device permissions.

Appeals & Complaints

If you believe your rights were infringed, contact us first. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Children’s Privacy

The apps are designed for adult learners or learners authorized by an educational institution. If we learn that personal data was provided by a child without proper consent, we will delete it promptly and notify the relevant institution.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect operational or regulatory changes. We will notify you in the app or via email (where feasible) before changes take effect. The “Last updated” date shows the most recent revision.
